Wendt was an active silver company in New York from the late 1850's until the early 1870's. His scarce flatware is traditionally marked "Sterling Patent" or "925 Patent", and often accompanied by a retailer's mark such as Ball, Black, Co. or Starr Marcus.
Rare Ribbon by John R. Wendt c1870 Sterling Silver Moresque style flatware set - 50 pieces, with of stylized tendrils and leaves, with two central medallions. This set, like many early sterling flatware sets, includes Mother of Pearl Handle knives with sterling ferrules because hollow handle sterling knives were not yet widely produced. This set includes:
