Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) can be described as one of the icons of Finnish design and a symbol of the international success of postwar Finnish design. He was a versatile legendary designer, sculptor, and artist who could shift fluently between different materials and crossed established professional boundaries.
This pattern was originally designed in 1960 for the Marski Hotel in Helsinki Finland (in stainless steel). It was only offered for a short time by special order in sterling silver. This set was handmade and is impressed with the following hallmarks: Finland assay mark, silver purity mark for 916 silver, made in Hameenlinna in the year 1965.
