Arthur J. Stone (1847-1938) was a leading silversmith from
Gardner, Massachusetts. He was trained and worked in Sheffield, England, and
Edinburgh, Scotland prior to coming to the U.S. in 1884. He was one of the last
silversmiths in America to train apprentices to carry out designs in hand wrought
silver. Today, Stone is widely recognized as America's foremost Arts and Crafts
silversmith.
