Founded
in 1880 by Edmond Tétard (1860-1901) following the purchase of the
house of Mr. Hugo. In 1889, he participated in the World Expo and
received a Gold Medal. The house specializes in services and Louis XV
style pieces. In 1901, the house was taken over by his three sons,
Henri, Jacques and Georges under the name Tétard Frères. From the 1920s,
the house works after the models of Valery Bizouard (1875-1945) and
Louis Tardy (1881-1978), creators of Avant Garde. Jean Tétard
(1907-1980), son of Henri, also designs models for the paternal
workshop. At the International Colonial Exhibition of 1931, Tétard
brothers won an exceptional prize list: ten medals were awarded to the
creators of models and collaborators of the house.
Tétard Frères,
along with Puiforcat and Christofle, was one of the leading makers of
French Art Deco silver. With a long history of exceptional
silversmithing which includes gold medals at 19th century world fairs,
Maison Tétard began making silver in the style moderne during the 1920s
under the design leadership of Valéry Bizouard.
