Early Sterling silver Gorham Barrel form Milk Pail with swing handle. It has a faux wood-like finish, faux panels, and applied border with faux screws/rivets. The interior is lightly gold washed. It measures 4 1/8" x 3" tall and weighs 8.2 troy ounces. It is in good vintage condition with minor scratches and dings, as expected with age. This piece is stamped 1200 and date letter "E" for the year 1872. A unique early piece!



When Gorham adopted the sterling standard in 1868, they
began a system of year-marks which were stamped into their products to denote
the year in which they were made. Starting with A for 1868, letters of the
alphabet were used until 1884 (Q).
