Outstanding Martele by Gorham .9584 sterling silver Water pitcher with floral motif, marked #L / VW. Featuring intricately detailed cascading floral and leaf design. This piece took 60 hours of making time, hammering out from a solid piece of silver, then an additional 88.5 hours of chasing time for the flowers and design, made May 24th 1907. It was retailed by Spaulding of Chicago. It measures 9 1/2" tall to the spout and 9" wide from the spout to the back of the handle. It is not monogrammed.
Martele was Gorham's most expensive and most desirable silver. When all pieces were then being machine made, Gorham brought together in their most talented silversmiths and opened one department to make silver Martele' by hand.
