Martele' by Gorham
Art Nouveau Martele' by Gorham .950 sterling silver Large Fish Serving Dish with a fabulous design of figural putti or cherub in a seashell boat, pulled by fish among waves. The edge of the platter has a dimensional wave design and both ends display a design of a stylized dolphin. This piece was made in April 6, 1898 and took 20 hours to form. It was then hand chased for an incredible 58 hours. Only 33 Fish Dishes were ever produced, each one unique.
It measures 22"(l) x 11 1/3" (w). It is not monogrammed is in excellent condition. It weighs a heavy 64.9 troy ounces.
Each piece of Martele' is one-of-a-kind. Martele' was a limited line of hand made and hand chased fine silver. The pieces were hand hammered, creating a soft finish of small hammer blows that overlap in a true work of art in silver, each piece unique. Martele' displays one of the highest points of American silverwork. Museum quality.
