Martele by Gorham
Superb exceedingly rare .9584 sterling silver Set of 12 Service Plates with beautiful daisy design and subtle hand hammered finish. They are stamped #KXJ made April 27, 1906, making time 83 hours, chased by Edward Zior Sr. chasing time 329 hours. They have a subtle hand hammered finish and all different chasing of witch hazel flowers. This was the 2nd most chasing time of all 4000 Martele items that were ever made made.
Martele' was Gorham's most expensive and most desirable silver. The Martele pieces also have higher silver content than standard .925 sterling silver silver. When all pieces were then being machine made, Gorham brought together in their most talented silversmiths and opened one department to make silver Martele' by hand.
They measure 10 1/4" in diameter and weigh 20.91 troy ounces each. They have a matching monogram in the center of each as well as an inscription on the backs "CLH from FKK Christmas 1906". They are in excellent vintage condition. Museum quality.
