The academic nature in which designer Antione Heller looked to the past for inspiration also stems from the Beaux Arts movement. Cluny takes its name and inspiration from a real place with historical significance. This is a Multi Motif pattern,named for the gardens surrounding the Hotel de Cluny in Paris, a medieval stone mansion built in the Middle Ages in 1485 in the Gothic style. It was richly decorated and filled with collections devoted to the arts. Outstanding Cluny by Gorham sterling silver salt and pepper shaker two-piece set marked #2225. The shakers measure 2 1/2" tall x 1 1/2" and together weigh 2.2 troy ounces. They are monogrammed on the bottom (see photos), and are in good estate condition. Remarkable!
