Black Starr and Frost

Black, Starr Frost, previously known as Marquand and Co, is an American jewelry company. Founded in 1810 as Marquand and Co., the company is the oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States. The company was headquartered at 166 Broadway, and over time became regarded as "the principal jewelers in the country," as stated in the obituary of Tiffany Co’s director Edward C. Moore. In the year 1876, the company was named Black, Starr, and Frost, and in 1929 they merged with Gorham.

Superb Iris motif Vase by Black Starr Frost created out of sterling silver, circa 1876-1908, New York. It stands a monumental 19 inches tall x 7 ¼” wide at the rim. It has an incredible high relief iris design around the rim with stems down the body of the vase, with a beautiful subtle hand hammered finish, and iris design around the base. It weighs an astounding 82.6 troy ounces. It is not monogrammed and is in excellent condition. Outstanding!
