Danica is considered the most distinguished and costly dinner service in the
world. From the finest preparation of the raw porcelain mass to the
painting of the edges by the gold decorator with 24 carat gold, the creation of
this service is truly a feat of craftsmanship.
While
the porcelain is still soft, the edges and perforations are cut out by
hand. Then the delicate flower decorations on the lids and handles are
shaped, leaf-by-leaf, and stalk-by-stalk. The illustrations are then
copied from the original copperplate prints found in the botanical work.
Flora Danica, where the porcelain painters choose their motifs from among 700
different plates. The flowers are painted with great care, and each
color must be fired before the next color can be added.
The
sumptuous, life-like decorations and the age-old traditions behind its
creation, make Flora Danica truly a unique experience for the lovers of fine
porcelain everywhere.
