Bernadotte
embodies the story of the Georg Jensen heritage. Designed by Prince Sigvard Bernadotte in 1939, it is an example of the functionalist 1930's ideal to create objects of everyday use for everyone but is contradictive as it was made in sterling. The cutlery of choice
for anyone who appreciates the smooth feel of fine design and the
resonant timelessness of dining among loved ones. The Danish King Christian X ate daily meals with Bernadotte cutlery in Fredensborg Palace.
Prince Sigvard Bernadotte (1907-2002) was trained at the Kungliga
Konstakademien in Stockholm in 1929. The prince's long affiliation with
Georg Jensen represents another chapter in the rich history of
Scandinavian design. His work was sleek and sparingly-decorated which is a stark contrast to the ornamental designs in earlier silver. His modern style was a match for the new society. His Bernadotte collection has been and continues to
be a favorite for generations.
