Birds Nest by Gorham
A rare and beautifully detailed Gorham “Birds Nest” sterling silver Ice Cream Spoon with frosted gold-washed bowl 5 7/8”. Birds Nest is a naturalistic pattern that was introduced by Gorham c1865. The design incorporates botanical and avian motifs in a highly sculptural form.
This example features a gracefully shaped sterling silver bowl and an intricately modeled handle resembling a textured twig or branch. Decorative leaves form an ornamental transition between the bowl and handle, while the handle terminates in the distinctivethree-dimensional bird’s nest motif. The nest is formed with remarkable relief and detail, accompanied by a bird and eggs, which varies in a multi-motif in the various pieces of this pattern. The naturalistic construction and hand-finished detailing make the Birds Nest pattern one of Gorham’s more unusual and collectible 19th-century designs.
It is not monogrammed and is in excellent vintage condition. Museum quality.
