Anton Michelsen opened his workshop in Gothersgade in Copenhagen in 1841 and by 1848 had become jeweler for the Danish College of Arms. After rapidly expanding and moving to a new location, he was the only Danish silversmith to show in the 1855 World Exhibition in Paris. Also designing for Anton Michelsen Silversmithy at the turn of the century were the talents of Thorvald Bindesboll, Harald Slott-Moller, Georg Thylstrup, Johan Rhode, and Svend Hammershoj.
