was Gorham's most expensive and most desirable silver. When all pieces
were then being machine made, Gorham brought together in their most
talented silversmiths and opened one department to make silver Martele'
by hand.

Outstanding Martele by Gorham sterling silver massive Water Pitcher with sea motif (the perfect motif for a water pitcher), marked #8581, 5 1/2 PINT. The base has stylized dolphin feet with a shell base to the body and seaweed extending into water throughout the body of the pitcher. This piece took 58 hours of making time, 85 hours of chasing time, and bears the date stamp for the year 1897. It measures 12 3/4" tall x 9 1/2" and
weighs a heavy 65.7 troy ounces. It is not monogrammed and is in excellent condition. Museum quality.
