Porter Blanchard taught his son-in-law and renowned designer Allan Adler (the
silversmith to the stars) the craft of silversmithing and was the one of
the founders of the Arts Crafts movement in California, after
moving from Boston where 5 generations had been in silversmithing. Blanchard bridged the Arts and Crafts and Modern movements. Blanchard's
exploration into progressive design began with the silver he exhibited
at the 1928 Exhibition of the Decorative Arts at the National Arts Club
in New York.
