Richelieu by Tiffany Co. is an exquisite sterling silver pattern designed by George Paulding Farnham and patented in 1892. The pattern was discontinued in 1913 and later reintroduced in 1952 before being discontinued again. Its name is believed to reference Cardinal Richelieu.

Richelieu is an ornate and elegant design, featuring graceful C-scrolls along both the front and reverse of the handles, accented by an inner shell border. Delicate floral ornamentation adorns the handle, culminating in a beautifully sculpted shell at the tip. The elaborate decoration reflects Farnham’s celebrated Beaux-Arts approach and his ability to bring the richness and detail of jewelry design to Tiffany’s silver flatware.

George Paulding Farnham (1859–1927) was one of Tiffany Co.’s most influential designers. Trained under Edward C. Moore and Charles Grosjean, he became chief designer and head of the jewelry department in 1893 and later served as artistic director of the silver department. His highly elaborate designs are among Tiffany’s most collectible works.
