This pattern was designed by David B. Hoover and introduced in the year 1965. It was designed specifically to showcase the finish. Wallace associated "Royal Satin" with both Italian craftsmanship in Renaissance Florence and the modern "shape of today". It was described as "misted silver" by Wallace, referring to the matte, textured finish on the elongated handles.
